Give short videos a daily limit

Enjoy some videos without leaving the session open-ended.

Budget Block / Time BudgetFree with one App List

Before you start

Open Tysh on your iPhone and grant Screen Time access when prompted.

Choose an App List in Blocks → Active → App Lists, or create one from the block editor. Free includes one list you can reuse. Additional lists require Premium.

Let’s set it up.

  1. Pick your video app

Create or use a single-app list for TikTok.

  2. Create a Budget Block

Open Blocks → + → Budget Block, name it, and select that list.

  3. Choose Time Budget

Choose Resettable under Reset rule and Time Budget under Budget type.

  4. Set your daily allowance

Set Minutes per day to 20 and tap Create.

What happens next

The app is blocked when Screen Time reports that the daily allowance has been used. Timing depends on Screen Time updates, so the cutoff may not happen at the exact second the allowance runs out.

If your plans change

Open the budget's detail screen to reset an exhausted allowance through its challenge. For an allowance that only refreshes tomorrow, choose Hard. Changing the numeric limit requires replacing the budget.

Another active protection can still keep the same app blocked. After setup, check that your boundary saved and enabled successfully.
